The Americas Gathering

The Americas Gathering will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from June 26 to July 3 of this year. The gathering will form part of a number of associated, Subud events that will be taking place before, during and after.

Excitement is mounting in Canada, particularly Vancouver, as the start of the Americas Gathering fast approaches. A team of more than 30 volunteers are working hard to provide a wonderful west-coast welcome on June 26 to visitors from all over the world. Although this 8-day gathering will largely be attended by Subud members and their families from Zones 7, 8 & 9 (the Americas), to date registrations have been received from Australia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Finland, Indonesia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Sri Lanka, Suriname, U.K. and the USA.

A program of kejiwaan activities extending over the entire week of the Gathering is being planned by the International Helpers and the Kejiwaan Councillors. Each day will begin with a group latihan followed by general testing. A late evening latihan is scheduled. During the day there will also be an opportunity for helper workshops and personal testing.

There is an exciting and varied program of workshops and presentations for families and friends to celebrate and get to know each other. For example, there will be a workshop titled “Finding Our Voice in Subud” – a “sharing circle” type discussion of our attempts to explain Subud to inquirers. Another workshop, “The Happiness Factor” will explore the questions: Is it possible to live a life centered in happiness and what is our definition of happiness? Yet another called “Women at Play” will be a fun, improvisation workshop.

El Zócalo, meaning the Gathering Place, will be the central hub of the gathering. With an adjoining outdoor courtyard, this will be the place to socialize with your new and old friends, stop and grab a coffee, tea, juice, or beer, a sweet treat or even a (Canadian bear) hug, and plan your next gathering adventure!

There will be a strong focus on presenting the cultural benefits of the latihan at this gathering.

Our evenings will be fun-filled with Subud entertainment and, for those who love to dance, we will be featuring live bands in a huge ballroom.

In addition, there will be a program for children and youth activities, tours and a gift shop.

The next registration rate increase is June 1. However, those who haven’t already registered are encouraged to do so as soon as possible, for two reasons – to ensure that there are rooms still available and to help the organizers in their planning.
